Seasonal Irrigation Tips

Spring Startup
Inspect the System: Before turning on the water, check for any visible signs of damage in the irrigation system, including pipes, hoses, and sprinklers.
Flush the System: Turn on the water slowly to flush out any debris that may have accumulated in the pipes during winter.
Check for Leaks: After flushing, inspect the system for leaks or broken components and repair them as needed.
Adjust Sprinkler Heads: Ensure that sprinkler heads are properly positioned to avoid watering sidewalks or driveways.
Set Timers: Program irrigation timers based on the seasonal water requirements of your plants, taking into account recent rainfall.
Test Coverage: Run the system to check for even water distribution and adjust as necessary.
Fall Winterization
Turn Off the Water Supply: Shut off the main water supply to the irrigation system to prevent freezing.
Drain the System: Remove water from the pipes and components to avoid damage from freezing temperatures. Use a pump or air compressor if necessary.
Insulate Exposed Pipes: Wrap exposed pipes with insulation or heat tape to protect them from freezing.
Store Hoses and Accessories: Disconnect and store hoses, sprinklers, and other accessories in a dry place to prolong their lifespan.
Check for Winter Damage: Inspect the system for any winter-related damage before the next spring startup.
Plan for Next Season: Review and adjust your irrigation plan based on the past season’s performance and plant needs.
